The Vocational College Institution was established at Gadjah Mada University based on the Rector's Decree Number 518/P/SK/HT/2008. The management of the Diploma Program, which was originally integrated with the Faculty (which has an Academic education path), was institutionalized so that it became an institution called the Vocational School (SV). Vocational School is a Diploma Education Institution as referred to in the Bylaws of Gadjah Mada University, is an academic implementing element equivalent to a Polytechnic which organizes vocational education programs and/or professional education including Diploma programs at the DI, D II, D III, D IV levels which terminal. Characteristics of Vocational Schools are characterized by the majority of practical activities as an explanation of the underlying theory so that students become skilled before entering the world of work after graduation.
Along the way, to provide broad development space and encouragement for comprehensive development plans to all units within UGM, it is necessary to establish a department in the Vocational School unit.
The definition of the department in the rector's regulation number 4 of 2016 is the element of the Vocational School in charge of providing vocational education for the diploma level. Article 23 states that the function of the department is to carry out activities for the development and application of science/science branches and the implementation of the Tridharma. Elements within the department consist of the Head and Secretary of the Department, lecturers and education staff as well as groups of areas of expertise.
The establishment of the department through the Rector's Regulation of UGM Number 4 of 2016 in the Vocational School unit is based on cognate study programs. There are 8 (eight) departments at the UGM Vocational School. One of them is DTHV which consists of 3 allied study programs, namely D III Agroindustry, D III Forest Management and D III Animal Health. In its journey, based on UGM's mandate as stated in the UGM Campus Master Plan regarding the independence of Vocational Schools, starting in 2019 UGM will not accept new students in the third diploma study program, and at the same time establish a fourth diploma or applied undergraduate study program, to improve the competence of graduates. . Since then, three four-diploma study programs within the THV Department have been established, namely the Applied Bachelor of Agroindustrial Product Development (STr-PPA), Applied Bachelor of Forest Management 9STr-PH) and Applied Bachelor of Veterinary Technology (STr-TV).
STr-PH Study Program was established based on the UGM Chancellor's Decree number 1535/UN1.P/KPT/HUKOR/2019 concerning the Opening of the Applied Undergraduate Study Program in Forest Management at the Vocational School of Gadjah Mada University. This study program is a development of the D III Forest Management Study Program which was established on July 28, 1994. The names and identities of the study programs are as follows:
